The first US immunization for COVID-19 could arrive on December 12


The head of the US effort to produce a coronavirus vaccine says that the first immunization could take place on December 12. The Advisory Committee on Food and Drug Administration is due to meet on December 10 to discuss a request from Pfizer Inc. on the authorization of emergency use for its development of COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech recently announced that the vaccine appears to be 95% effective in preventing mild to severe COVID-19 in a large ongoing study. Moncef Slaoui, head of Operation Warp Speed, a coronavirus vaccine program, says plans are to deliver vaccines to states within 24 hours of expected FDA approval. Slaoui told CNN that he expects vaccination to begin the day after approval, Dec. 12. +
